Shundor Asha Missions
"Shundor Asha" means "Beautiful Hope" in Bengali. This blog is the story of my journey onto the mission field, as I prepare to serve Jesus full-time in far-away India!
The desire of my heart is to minister to women and families during the powerful, life-changing, and often frightening years surrounding pregnancy and childbirth. Together, we can share the Beautiful Hope we have in Christ with women and families around the world!
Come & See What The Lord Has Done!
Here's a brief history of ShundorAsha ministries, and a synopsis of where I hope to go from here:
January 1998: I was saved at the age of 14, and the Lord hasn't let go of me yet!
Summer 2000: My first mission trip to Nepal.
Summer 2001: My life-changing mission trip to Kolkata, India.
August 2001: The Lord calls me into full-time ministry.
June 2004: A brother in Christ gave me this prophecy from the Lord: "Treat your future ministry in India like a business." (What does that mean?)
February 2008: The birth of my son, Jeremiah. Through my home-birth experience I came to fall in love with birth and to appreciate the incredible power that this event holds over a woman's life.
August 2009: I took a midwifery skills course, just to see if being a midwife was something I would enjoy or not.
Later in August 2009: I started nursing school.
September 2009: I realize that midwifery is my calling in life! I have a passion for women's health, safe-guarding birth, and establishing strong families - and I realize now that if I don't become a midwife, I'll never be satisifed on this earth.
November 2009: I started working toward my doula certifications.
December 2009: The Lord really began speaking to me about ministry and birth. I realize that midwifery and ministry are two sides of the same coin, and that the Lord has called me to midwifery as a fullfillment of my calling into ministry! (Now what do I do with that?)
February 2010: I took classes to become a birth doula and a postpartum doula.
April 2010: I began to start planning this ministry like a business (doesn't that sound familiar? I can see a glimmer of what that prophecy was about in 2004!). The vision is still evolving!
May 2010: I began working toward my antepartum (pregnancy) doula certification, as well as my certification as a lactation educator.

I Lift My Eyes Up To The Hills:
Who knows their future? The answer, of course, is none of us - only God. But here's what I am anticipating and praying about:
Fall 2010: Begin volunteering with birth and/or postpartum doula organizations.
Spring 2011: Finish my doula certifications and my lactation educator certification.
May 2011: Graduate from nursing school and begin the next phase of my life.
